Use an underlay in the view where you want to see objects either above or below.

You can draw your eaves dimensions on the ceiling plan.
The dashed lines that you are seeing in this plan are actually the edges of the roof element.
You notice when placing revit component families some display above the view cut plane while others like specialty equipment do not.
Follow these steps in order to get the desired display.
Define the display settings for projection lines using the object styles or the override graphics in view functions in revit.
Once the underlay of the correct level is turned on set it to either floor plan or reflected ceiling plan orientation.
When a family is located above the view range cut plane but falls below the top plane the family category will determine whether it is visible or not.
In order to enable different view representations make sure that the option show family pre cut in plan views in the structural beam family is unchecked.
Thankfully within revit there is a far more elegant solution to this problem and that is the linework tool.
