Revit Roof Plan View Range

In the view range dialog levels used to define the visible range are absolute to the current level of the view.

Once the floor plan or ceiling plan is open the view range button becomes available in the properties panel see figure 1. First the floor plan or ceiling plan must be opened using the project browser. View range is a group of parameters that control exactly what you see in any particular plan view. The bottom setting of the view range is not used in a reflected ceiling plan.

In this example i only need to create a rectangular boundary. Cut planes in a reflected ceiling plan are often set above the head height of the doors and windows. For example if you are in the level 2 plan view of a multi story building and you select level 4 as the top revit keeps level 4 as the top even if you add levels between level 2 and level 4. The area between the cut plane and the top of the view range establishes the primary view range of the view.

Now when you click the boundary you created above you will see view range in properties palette. The view range settings are linked to three horizontal planes that control the visibility and display of objects in a plan view top cut plane and bottom as well as an additional plane called view depth.
