Wear safety glasses and use a putty knife to remove any molding or baseboards around the perimeter of the damaged area.
If it isn t already broken don t break it.
Remove the old molding carefully.
Snap the new board into place by putting the tongue into.
If your wood filler is water based use a wet finger to smooth the wood filler.
Measure the length of the molding to be replaced and its height and thickness.
Allow the filler to dry for 24 hours.
The nails won t hold if they re driven straight into the polystyrene molding.
Miter the corners as with the base molding.
For a smaller area of damage such as dents and cracks in your trim molding buy wood putty.
Pry up the boards starting at the wall until you get to the damaged ones.
It s better to apply too much than too little.
Nail it at an angle so that the nail goes downward into the wood.
